How a farmer turned into
A Squarespace Website Designer for Small Businesses
I never intended to become a website designer. Like most small business owners, I just needed a professional online presence for my business, our farm, but a lot of options felt either overwhelming, looked way too DIY and awful, cost way more than I could afford at the time and designed by people who had never juggled the many hats of small business owners. I needed a website that I could organize, update, and 100% manage myself.
When I came upon Squarespace I was blown away with the sleek, polished and easy to use platform, not only the designing process but also what I could design myself!
So I dove into Squarespace and built my first website back in 2020 and honestly my first website wasn’t that great! But it was a great starting off point for our farm. In the end it took me years of learning, tweaking, and more learning to get our website where it is today. I had the time to do that though. I could figure it out as we go because our farm was growing slowly over time. The reality is most business owners don't have that luxury of time while also managing customers, inventory, marketing, and everything else.
As I started to master Squarespace, I started helping other small business owners with their websites. Along the way I would hear the same stories: business owners who had tried to build sites and hated the results, or folks who had hired companies only to discover they couldn't make simple updates without paying additional fees.
That is when I realized I could help and offer something completely different to small businesses! Not only could I design a beautiful website, but I could give them the confidence and knowledge to manage it themselves. Because when you need to update your website with new hours, announce a sale, or share customer success stories, you shouldn't have to wait for someone else's schedule.
My agricultural background gives me unique insight into seasonal businesses, local markets, and service-based operations, but I work with all types of small businesses who value authenticity and clear communication.
What Makes My Approach Different
I Actually Run a Small Business
I understand cash flow concerns, seasonal fluctuations, local marketing needs, and the challenge of wearing multiple hats because I live it every day with my own business.
You'll Learn Independence, Not Dependence
Instead of creating ongoing dependency, I teach you everything you need to maintain and grow your website yourself. You'll walk away confident and capable. Every website I create includes comprehensive training because I believe you should own and control your online presence.
A Peaceful Process in a Somewhat Confusing Industry
Web design doesn't have to add stress to your already full plate. My calm, organized approach eliminates the tech overwhelm that stops so many small business owners from getting online effectively.
When I'm not designing websites, you'll find me spending time with my husband and three boys, working on our farm with our animals, garden, flowers, making soap and candles, or nutritious meals for my family. I started Above the Barn Creative because I saw too many hardworking small business owners struggling with websites that didn't serve their needs or left them feeling helpless when changes were needed.
Whether you're providing a service, have a small online shop or simply need a professional place to point potential customers, I understand the unique challenges small businesses face in the digital world.
